10 Creative Ways to Use Christmas Children’s Ministry Printables

Graphic header for Children’s Worship Bulletins titled “10 Creative Ways to Use Christmas Children’s Ministry Printables,” featuring hand-drawn holly illustrations and festive red and green lettering on a soft, snowy background.

As Christmas approaches, your ministry schedule fills with rehearsals, family events, special services and joyful chaos. It’s a wonderful season — but a busy one — and simple, meaningful resources can make a world of difference for volunteers and families. Christmas coloring pages and activity sheets give children a hands-on, quiet activity that also helps them reflect on the true meaning of the season.

10 Fun Ways to Use Christmas Coloring Pages for Kids

Below, you’ll find 10 creative ways to use Christmas printables in your children’s ministry, classroom or outreach programs. And don’t forget to scroll to the bottom to download two free Christmas coloring pages designed just for kids’ church.

1. Hold a Christmas Coloring Contest

Kick off December with a church-wide coloring contest. Invite kids — and adults — to participate using the free printable pages or create one of your own! Offer small prizes for different categories either by age or fun themes such as creative use of color.

Tip: Display the art along hallways or classroom doors to brighten your building all month long and inspire members with their Christmas Bible coloring pages.

2. Place Coloring Pages in Pews During Christmas Services

Christmas services may feel long for little ones. Keep hands busy and hearts focused by placing printed pages and bagged crayons near entrances or on pews.

Tip: Keep crayons in labeled zippered bags so volunteers can quickly refill and tidy up.

3. Laminate Completed Pages as Placemats

Preserve the finished coloring pages by laminating them for another use. Then you can send the placemats home with families as a fun Christmas gift for a parent or grandparent or to use at a Christmas meal. Or you can use the colorful placemats at church and community meals, adding a festive touch to all the tables.

Tip: Give laminated pages to parents and grandparents as a personal holiday gift from the kids.

4. Send Coloring Pages to Homebound Members

Elderly or homebound church members love receiving mail. So why not brighten their holiday season by sending them colored Christmas pages from the church’s children?

Have preschoolers color pages and then mail those to those members who may not be able to attend, especially during cold and harsh weather.

Tip: Ask church members for old Christmas cards and cut off the front and use it to add a short note from your kids’ class or ministry team for a personal touch.

5. Shrink Pages for Bookmarks or Tree Ornaments

By reducing the image on a printable coloring page, you can create a variety of resources. For example, you can make Christmas-themed bookmarks or even create paper-ornament Bible crafts that families can hang on their Christmas tree. This makes a perfect Sunday school activity for little ones and offers easy craft ideas they’ll enjoy.

Tip: Punch a hole and add a ribbon to make simple ornaments for kids to take home.

6. Use Printables at Holiday Events

From cookie swaps to Christmas musicals, coloring pages fit everywhere. A completed coloring page or activity sheet works well as a decoration, while blank sheets make great favor-bag additions.

Tip: Add them to goody bags or use finished pages as quick tabletop decorations.

7. Include a Coloring Page with Christmas Cards

Tuck a coloring sheet for each child into the cards your church mails to families, new visitors or community partners as a fun at-home Christmas activity.

Tip: Feature a contest-winning design on the cover of your church Christmas card — with permission from the artist.

8. Add Printables to Community Outreach Gifts

When assembling giving-tree gifts, local family baskets or community care bags, add a Christmas coloring sheet and a small pack of crayons.

Tip: Include your church website or kids-ministry contact info at the bottom of the page as a friendly invitation.

9. Use Coloring Pages at a “Happy Birthday, Jesus” Party

A ‘Happy Birthday, Jesus’ party is a joyful, kid-friendly celebration that brings plenty of Christmas cheer while helping kids focus on the true meaning of the season. Coloring pages fit perfectly into the event, giving children a calm, hands-on way to celebrate and reinforce the story. They’re easy to set out and make a meaningful keepsake families can take home.

Tip: After cake and singing, let children color while you read Luke 2 aloud as a short devotion.

10. Use Printables for Virtual Classes or Family Challenges

If your church offers virtual lessons or take-home resources to match the curriculum, send a printable each week of Advent. You can also pair it with a short Bible lesson for families to use at home.

Tip: Turn it into a family challenge by inviting families to color together, read the weekly Scripture and post a photo online. It’s a perfect way to reinforce a kids’ Sunday school lesson.
